Sarah Buckingham Basketball Introduction 2013-2015

Recommended by  Mike Mitro: Mitro_m@surreyschools.ca (LTSS Basketball Director)

"Sarah has been the oncourt leader of her team ever since arriving at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary. She is a special player and gifted athlete who works hard to better herself both on the court and off. In addition to being her senior girls basketball MVP, top scorer, leader in steals & assists and made the most 3 pointers, she also was the schools athlete of the year and top leadership student. She would be an ideal candidate for college teams looking for a versitile athlete and creative scorer"

Thank You for taking the time to review my profile and videos.  My name is Sarah Buckingham and I have just completed my 1st season with the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), participating in the Explorer division of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association Conference in the Canadian Interuniversity Sports league (CIS).

During my first season at UNBC I played in all 20 league games, starting in 8 and ended the season with an average playing time of 17.8 mins, and finished 4th in scoring for my team.  My season highlights include scoring 24 points (5 assists, 33 mins) against division rivals University of Fraser Valley.  I have been the starting point guard/shooting guard on my high school team as well as my club team, AthElite Basketball Academy.  I have been awarded the MVP for my high school team the past 5 seasons and I received my High School's 2013/2014 Grade 12 Female Athlete of the year & 2013/2014 overall Outstanding Female Athlete of the year.  In 2012/2013 I was awarded the Grade 11 Female Athlete of the year, 2012/2013 overall Outstanding Female Athlete of the year and our schools 2012/2013 Panther Spirit Award (for excellence in sport, leadership, school service, character & dedication).   I consider myself to be a team player and I go into every game and practice with a strong work ethic. I thrive in a competitive environment and I love being faced with a challenge.

As a student, I graduated with Honours from Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary and currently have a 3.75 GPA in my first years studies at the University of Northern British Columbia.

As a college athlete I hope to gain more knowledge about the game and to continually improve my skills. Most importantly, I want to make a difference on my team, doing everything it takes to make us successful. I want to be challenged which, in turn, will help me become the best possible player while keeping up with my studies. I am interested in both kinesiology and education and I hope to study one of these areas at college.

Sr. Girls Basketball: Fraser Valley Championships February 21, 2013

Yale Secondary (Blue & Red Uniforms) vs Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary (White & Green Uniforms)
Final Score: Yale 58, LTSS 57
Sarah Buckingham #15 LTSS (White & Green)

The Tweedsmuir Panthers put on quite a run down the stretch to make this a game to remember.   Sarah's Coach, Dave Nebor would go on to say that tonight was Sarah's night to shine and the game her canvas.  In the end it came down to 1 point, but not without a fight as LTSS battled back with under 8 minutes to go from 15 points down (18 points after 1 min into the second half) to leave a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.  Sarah Finished with 25 points, 17 coming in the last 8 minutes of the game!

Note: Unfortunately the last 3.5 seconds are missing in which Sarah put up a last second 3 pointer to bring the score within 1.

Sr. Girls Basketball: Jan 31, 2013

Game: Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary (White) versus Terry Fox (Red)
Location: Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary
Final Score: LTSS 63 - Terry Fox 66
Sarah Buckingham #15 (White)

Tonights match up against Terry Fox was seesaw battle with each team taking various "runs" throughout the game.  At half time the two teams were tied 36-36, but in the end, Terry Fox's senior #14 (34 points and 15 rebounds) was just to much to handle and Terry Fox was able to withstand a last minute push by LTSS and hold on for the victory.   Some hard work tonight by LTSS senior #9 with 12 points, senior #14 Vanessa Jacaboski with 12 points (x3 three point shots), 5 rebounds, 5 assists and #15 Sarah Buckingham with 19 points (x4 three point shots), 4 rebounds and 5 assists.

Final Score: Brookswood 84 - LTSS 59
Sarah Buckingham #15 (Green)

Although this was a tough match up for Sarah's LTSS team, Brookswood was ranked 2 in the Province, LTSS continued to work hard throughout the game up to the last sound of the buzzer.   Highlights include LTSS team member #16 Venessa Jakubowski scoring 11 points (x3 three point shots), Brookswood's #10 scoring 28 (including x8 three point shots) and Sarah #15 ending the night with 19 points (including x3 three point shots), 11 assist and 9 rebounds.
